Aspirins

Is Cumadin REALLY that much more effective than Bayer Aspirin? Why all of the fuss?

Public Comments

  1. Coumadin or Warfarin disrupts the blood clotting mechanism and prevent abnormal clots from forming. If the clot is already there the anticoagulant prevents it from enlarging. Aspirin at 81mg, reduces the stickiness of platelets. Some people take both and others, take one or the other
  2. yes...coumadin is way more effective. It's like comparing apples and grapefruits.
  3. I take 10mg Warfarin + 81 mg asprin
  4. Aspirin is an antiplatelet medication. Normally when there is an injury, platelets will adhere to the site of injury and stick to each other forming a plug or platelet aggregate, after which blood clotting is initiated. Blood will still clot when you take aspirin, but it will tend to ooze longer before it clots. Coumadin affects many clotting factors in the blood. The specific action of Coumadin is to block the production of Factors VII, IX, X, and II by the liver. This is much stronger than aspirin. Coumadin requires lab work to be followed to monitor how thin the blood is getting and there is a specific goal the doctor will establish. Because it thins the blood so much, and increases risks of bleeding problems, it is important to keep up on your lab work and follow closely as the doctor has instructed. Good luck, hope this was helpful.
