Is it bad to keep taking Bayer aspirin every 4 hours (1weekalready),I have a really bad toothache?

I did go to the dentist, she says she can't do anything until my cheek stop swelling..She did give me Vicodin, but that doesn't seem to be helping as much as the aspirin I was given antibotics, I was given cepgakebxub 500 mg cephalexin, im going to faint now

  1. You need a new or real dentist..........that answer is all wrong.
  2. Vicodin sometimes just makes you not care about the pain and doesn't relieve the symptoms. If your cheek is swelling, you may have an infection that requires antibiotics before anything can be done, but not just pain killers. Asprin is fine for a limited amount of time, but I would say to 1. Get another opinion and 2. Not to take asprin so frequently if you can avoid it...it can harm your stomach... and your liver.
  3. OMG where did your dentist go to school? If your cheeks swollen you probably have an infection and that needs antibiotics. It won't go away with vicodin, that's for pain. Try to go see your doctor about the infection and tell him what happened with the dentist. For help with the swelling/pain you should try a warm compress. One that doesn't get too hot and is easy to make do this. Take a good sized clean cotton sock and fill it with rice. Tie off the end and stick it in the microwave for 30 second intravals till it's warm enough to heat your cheek but not hot. That helps a lot because it will form around your cheek anything holding it in place without getting in the way. fill most of the foot part of the sock with the rice but not all the way so it has enough but doesn't get stiff.
  4. You should have been given an antibiotic. If you are in pain and swelling, you obviously have an infection. I strongly suggest that you go to another dentist.
  5. One time I had a toothache and, I was desperate with pain, nothing was taking the pain away, I went to Web MD and they had some advise as on some of the medication one can take for a toothache. 2 Tylenol and 2 Advil's did the job for me, for the pain. I did not have any swelling, just pain. Aspirin is great for any kind of swelling. If it's working for you, and it's bringing the swelling down, then keep taking it, also place hot towels on you cheeks, I mean warm towels, that helps to bring the swelling down too. As soon as that swelling goes down run to the dentist. Even though the Tylenol and the Advil's worked for me, I don't think you can take them along with the aspirins, so don't do that, just keep it up with the aspirins. I'm so sorry, because the pain is awful. Maybe you can take the Tylenol and Advil at night, With no aspirins. I do hope you feel much better soon. A toothache is something I do not wish on not even my worst enemy.. I have none, but just a saying. What everyone is telling you, it's true, if you have swelling and pain, you must have an infection, if you are running a fever, most definitely, you have an infection. Your dentist should have given you antibiotics for that. Please do go see another dentist, as soon as you start taking the antibiotics, the pain goes away, and it is such a relief. Everyone is telling you nothing but the truth here...
  6. yes.. because aspirin would cause bleeding..
  7. Advil is one of the best meds for dental pain there is. Lay off the aspirin definitely. Take 2 Advil every 6 hours with food. You can take Tylenol for breakthrough pain occassionally but don't take to much tylenol as it is hard on your liver if you take more than the recommended dosage. Now, vicodin has a narcotic in it along with tylenol so you could take that and still take some advil couple hours later. Just no extra Tylenol in addition to the Vicodin. So sorry 'bout the toothache, nothing worse. Call her or go to ER if gets to miserable and get stronger narcotic pain reliever. The antibiotic you're on is pretty typical and usually does the trick for the infection, but should do the trick in 2 days or so. As in starting to get a little better. If not, antibiotic change in order too.
  8. Yeah, it sounds like theres an infection in there. Sounds like the pain is from the inflammation, but as long as you are taking the bayer as instructed, it should be fine. Just look out if you cut yourself, it will be harder to stop the bleeding as bayer reduces the bloods clotting capability.
