Aspirins

HELP, my dog is sick, no vets open in my area right now :(?

Two months ago my brother gave me a dog he rescued. She is a chihuahua. I've always noticed she has a small sneezing problem. They told me not to worry cause she just has allergies. Well the sneezing doesn't occur anymore but last month I noticed she gained alot of weight within two days, That night she couldn't walk and I thought she was really going to die, No vets open, I had to try something I gave her baby aspirin. The next morning there was poop everywhere and she went back to regular size but she was walking I was in shock because day before she couldn't move, Well tonight I came home and same thing happening again, I'm trying the aspirin again so in some miracle it'll help again, but this time she looks worse and her heart is beating really fast. What's wrong with my dog? Also not sure is sneezing has anything to do with it but I thought I add it just in case. Any info would help, Thank You Sorry first dog.I know I should have taken her after thr first episode I feel so dumb now. And the nearest vet in my area is 200 miles away, Also very bad timing cause car is in shop, and I don't know anyone that would take me to a vet so far away :(

  2. This same thing happened a *month* ago and you still haven't had her checked out by a vet??! Stop giving her Aspirin. It won't do anything, except possibly make her condition worse. Don't *ever* administer any human medications to your dog, without the explicit direction of your vet. If you can't get to the nearest city/metro area tonight (they always have 24hr emergency vets), then you need to take her to a vet first thing in the morning. Keep her hydrated, and stop drugging her up.
  3. Have you tried to call a vets office? Every single one I know has an answering service and will call you back after hours or will direct you to the closest 24 hour emergency vet clinic. Call your vet's office and get whatever help you can find. No vet leaves their clients hanging in an emergency.
  4. Check your phone book for an emegency vet. number. This sounds like some urgent care to me.
  5. It sounds like it could be congestive heart failure or a kidney or liver problem.Dogs will swell from excess fluid with these conditions, and liver failure will cause sneezing. You need to try and find an emergency vet,or at least call a vet first thin in the morning, and may I ask why you didn't take her to a vet after the first episode?
  6. This is puzzling, but I do not have an answer. Without hesitation take her to the vet the moment they open tomorrow. Is she an older dog? I wish that I could help you. Have you checked to see if there is an all night vet clinic? They are more expensive, but most small towns and small cities have them. Please do take her to the vet first thing tomorrow. Meanwhile, pick up any dog food that maybe lying in a dish and don't feed her anything. Pick up her water bowl, as well. The vet may need to run some tests on an empty stomach. Fingers crossed. You are in my thoughts.
  7. It is possible that your dog has a problem called "bloat "or GDV. I don't think the aspirin is the answer...you need to get her to your vet right away. Time is crucial...get moving!
  8. well has she flirted with any male dogs lately because it sounds like shes pregnant it is also common for your dog to get little colds when shes pregnant because her systems that fight off sicknesses is down!!!!
  9. Hi, I have two little ones just like yours, do you have a phone book? If so look up animal hospitals, look for the 24 hr hospital and call them, this sounds like something serious is going on and you will need professional help with it before it gets worse. Also if you like you can e-mail me and maybe I can give you my number so I can help you better with this.My e-mail is r-francis@att.net and Im up real late so if you want to feel free to contact me and I"ll try to help you look up numbers or give sugestions.Oh, I use infant cherry Tylenol but you can only use a little as these dogs are so small and can only use small doses and only once or twice its not advisable to use very much due to side affects.
  10. It certainly sounds like your dog is having some sort of intestinal problem. You will need to get her to a vet when they are open, symptoms or not, they may be able to help. Lets start with some real basics. Many, many, many dogs have food allergies, mainly to corn, wheat, and soy (in that order.) If you are feeding any dog food you can find at a chain store, chances are one of the above ingredients are in the top 3 ingredients in the food you are feeding your little dog. Flip over the bag and take a look at what is in it. Search for an independent pet store or pet botique in your area and take a look at the ingredients in the food they offer. Compare the ingredients with the ingredients in the food you have been feeding, and suddenly you will say to yourself "oops! I never knew thahere was SUCH a difference!" Giardia is VERY prevalent in most dog parks around the country. There is a vaccine for it, but it is not a part of the usual set, so you have to ask your vet for it. It can cause abdominal discomfort, and the most common symptom is the runs. Your dog might have the runs constantly, or intermittently. Your dog will need a certain type of antibiotic (metrondiazole aka Flagyl) to kick this. Vets often go by symptoms and sometimes a fecal to diagnose it. In the interm, giving your dog plain lowfat yogurt and lactobacillus can help relieve the symptoms, but will NOT cure it, the dog will need meds for that! Whatever the cause of your dogs issues are, the best idea is to go to the vet as soon as they open and discuss your dog's history of having these problems and see what they suggest. They may want to take an x-ray to rule out a blockage, or possibly do a fecal exam to check for other problems. Going to the vet is never fun for your dog or your bank account, but it sounds like this issue with your dog was not a one-time thing, and you need to get a professional to look at her- the sooner the better!
  11. Please get your dog to emergency care immediately. It sounds like this is an overwhelming situation for you, it is OK for you to admit that. You need to call a person that you know that will help you get this animal to a vet NOW before she dies. Think to yourself--who do you know who has a dog that you can call RIGHT NOW???? Don't worry about the late hour--any dog owner is like a pet parent and will understand--they will NOT understand why you fail to act NOW! Please let us know how your dog is we are all concerned. THANKS FOR REACHING OUT--now make the call to the person you KNOW who can help you! If you are truly all out of people you know, call a non-emergency police number, or 911. Sometimes 911 will help unless there are pressing other emergencies, if I knew where you live I could help more. UPDATED ANSWER: It sounds like you are in 'the boonies' and if I were you,I'd try calling 911, because they might not be too busy to help you transport your dog, get a police guy or something. And people, TYLENOL IS TOXIC TO DOGS. If the dog has bloat she is really suffering and is in immiment danger of dying. Please call 911--try everything--no tylenol, nothing by mouth, get a doctor somehow! I will look for a 24 hour phone line. UPDATED UPDATE!!! It's been a couple of days and I'm wondering how your dog is? Hope she and you are OK.
  12. It sounds like your dog has a blockage or an allergy or maybe parasites,I'm not sure. I am sure that you need to knock down a vets door NOW !. I wish so much i could be more help, maybe take the dog to a firehouse and see if rescue people could be of help.Places to try ,local farms,breeders,K9 unit of local police. you have to find a professional or link to one.
  13. You really should have taken your dog in the first time it exhibited the symptoms. And baby aspirin may ease your mind but it could be making the problem worse. Is it possible that she got into something prior to the first incident? One previous answer suggested liver disease and said sneezing was one of the symptoms. Although it's possible that it could be liver disease I want you to know that sneezing is not one of the common presenting signs. Liver problems can cause/contribute to heart problems. You mentioned weight gain, did you actually weigh her or were you guessing she had gained based on her abdominal size? Check out the link below and read up on the other symptoms. And quit giving your dog the aspirin and get her in to see the vet tomorrow morning. A.S.A.P. http://www.canine-epilepsy.com/liverdisease.htm I hope she gets better. ***Acetaminophin (Tylenol) can contribute to liver failure in dogs. DO NOT give Tylenol. Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, etc.) can cause kidney failure and be fatal -DO NOT give either without consulting with your vet first....
  14. You should have taken her to the vet last time. Either find the on-call vet in your area or talk to a vet at one of the vet-chat websites I'll list below. We're not vets, you need a vet -!-
  15. It almost sounds like bloat. However, bloat doesn't just "go away" with baby aspirin. Could she have gotten into alot of dog food, or even human food, and eaten it??? If she's eaten alot then she'd be bloated, uncomfortable and would poop all over once she digested enough to do so. Those are the only things that make dogs balloon up that big, then go back to normal size. Give her some pepto to settle her stomach, check her temperature (make sure it doesn't get above 103), keep her walking and take her out as much as you can. Listen to her stomach for the normal digesting noises and if her heart beat gets to fast or irregular you're going to have to find a way to a vet.
