Aspirins

How many baby aspirins do I give my 13 year old dog?

He has an earache and my mom said to give him baby aspirin but I don't know how much to give him.

  1. You need to take the dog to the vet and find out what's causing her sore ears. It could be yeast, mites or bacteria or a combination of all of these. Aspirin won't clear up the infection.
  2. Instead of "consulting" your mother, or morons around here, call your vet and make an appointment. This is ridiculous.
  3. Most veterinarians recommend from 5 mg to 10 mg per pound of the dog's weight during a 12 hour period. (That is about 10-20 mg per kg weight). Going on the safe side, a recommended dosage of aspirin of about 5 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) seems to work well for most dogs.
  4. You don't. Don't give your animal any medication, meant for humans or pets, without the guidance of your vet. Dog's with earaches should see their vets anyway. Multiple things could cause an earache and instead of treating the pain you should be treating the problem.
  5. you need to take your dog to the vet. he has an earache for a reason. if he has an infection, he needs antibiotics.
  6. An aspirin won't do any good until you find out what's causing the ear problems and treat that. Get the dog to a vet, find out what's wrong, and ask about dosage if it's needed.
  7. that's an answer only the vet can give you. it depends on the dog itself, his weight, and other factors. in addition, the asprin may not help the actual problem, so it's a good idea to treat the problem, not mask the pain. my vet has instructed me to give my 85 lb lab mix ONE baby asprin for ARTHRITIS pain per day. but an ear infection is something that needs to be CURED, or it will only get worse.
  8. AAah! Don't give him any! Take him to the vet, they'll give you something.
  9. You need to take your dog to the vet. You should never give your dog any medication that are for humans. Even 1 little pill can them very sick or even cause death. If he has an infection he will need an antibiotic that only the vet can prescribe.
  10. Dogs need painkillers specifically for dogs, not ones for people. Go to your vet.
  11. Call your vet and get an opinion. Its very dangerous to give a pet human medications. My vet has authorized giving my dog baby asprin in the past, but I really wouldn't suggest doing it without vet supervision.
  12. Not sure consult a vet for accurate information
  13. People give vets way too much credit for being able to cure everything that comes down the pike. And "Tony With" needs to grow up and realize that there are a few people on here older than 13 who are NOT morons. That said, YES I think your dog needs to see a vet so he can get the neccessary medication to clear it up but, in the meantime, why let him lay around in pain? Aspirin is safe to give to your dog, even though it is intended for human use. Almost all dog medications are the same as human medications, and were tested on dogs long before being approved for humans to use. Since I dont know his weight, I would say to give him no more than 1 enteric-coated baby aspirin. If he's a small dog, break it in 1/2 but give it to him with food. (By breaking the tablet, you ruin the enteric-coating ability). I still say you should take him to the vet as soon as possible because the aspirin wont cure the earache.
  14. I really recommend calling the vet's office and asking there rather than asking your mom. . . unless she's a vet. Perhaps your mom's been told to do that at some point by a vet when her dog was having some sort of pain, but that doesn't mean that's the right answer for what's wrong with your dog right now. Sometimes, all they'll tell you is to give them some medicine (and how much of that!) and only come in if that doesn't help. . . and that's generally free just like asking your mom. However, if you really do need to go in. . . your dog would probably really appreciate that one in the long run.
