Salicylic Acid - Acne worse before better?

Just started using a oil-free salicylic acid facial wash - acne is getting worse. Is this an expected side effect of the acid? Never had acne before, so this is all new to me.

1. I think it is different for everyone, but I have found that Salicylic Acid makes me break out worse and sometimes makes my skin burn. If it is causing you problems try a product with Benzoyl Peroxide instead. I think pro-active is the best.
