Can certain medications cause a female to spot bleed and have sore breasts before her period?

I am taking medications for lower back pain with radiculopathy, Tension Headaches and Migraine Headaches. I am taking the following medications Nortryptyline 75 MG, Maxalt 10 mg, and Butalbital/APAP/ Caffeine Tabs and Birth Control Pills.

  1. I don't think medication will affect it. Sometimes spotting happens. This month, I had sore breast for 2 weeks before my period and spotting 3 days before it was suppose to start. Very unusual for me.
  2. Caffeine can and will make your breast sore if taken in excess. The spot bleeding (or break through bleeding) while being on birth control can be normal at times. If it persist you may want to check with your dr. Your birth control pills maybe to strong or not strong enough. But, on a normal and if you take away all the medication you are on, sore breast is a typical sign of starting your period along with the spot bleeding of your bodys way of saying "I'm on my way". The medication you are on can magnify the sore breast. My birth control does and has for years. I hope this helps you.
  3. Your birth control piills can cause the spot bleeding and sore breasts. When I was on BCP, my periods were usually only spotting and not much more than that. Also, some of your medications may be giving you an adverse reaction. Suggest you discuss this with your physician. I don't know why you are taking caffeine tabs since you are taking Maxalt and Butalbital. I realize that caffeine can help a headache, but there are other treatments and you are receiving them. Discuss with your doctor. He may suggest putting you on a medication to keep you from getting migraines There is a particular medication that is used as a preventative for migraines and I had to go on that myself for a few months. It helped for a long time. Maxalt works well, doesn't it? Put one under the tongue and almost immediately you can feel the effects of it. I could always feel it in my neck first. Just ask your doctor if you should be on caffeine tablets unless he prescribed them. Might be a good idea for the two of you to review all your meds and any others you are taking over the counter.
  4. I don't think so, I have sore breasts a week before my period and some times my all cycle period.
