which one is better Benzoyl peroxide or Salicylic Acid for acne?

Public Comments

  1. Salicylic acid
  2. When I was a teenager, I had terrible acne and tried both. I had the most luck with Benzoyl peroxide, but usually it takes a little experimentation to find out what works best for each individual person.
  3. Benzoyl peroxide BY FAR. This one is usually prescription from your doctor (unless it's weak like 2.5% or less) while Salicylic Acid is usually an OTC (over the counter) active ingredient. When I was in middle school I used Salicyclic acid pads and didn't have much success but in high school I went to a dermatologist and got benzoyl peroxide pads which worked much better.
  4. I have quite serious acne and acne scars on my face and i tried Rosa T Concentrate - Oily skin, Pimples, Acne & Acne marks from Garden of Eden..and surprisingly it worked on me..i only wear it before i go to sleep coz it's oily but absorp well on the skin..within a week the acnes dissapeared and scars started fading.
  5. I talked to my skin care lady a couple weeks ago and i asked her the same thing. If you have breakout prone skin benzoyl peroxide is designed for more resilient acne prone skin. It is a very effective for acne, but may be too stimulating/harsh for your sensitive skin. Salicylic acid kills bacteria and reduces oil production to control acne breakouts. So basically if you have sensitive skin go for salicylic acid. If your skin can handle products and is NOT sensitive go for benzoyl peroxide. PCA products are the best!!!!!
  6. Salicylic acid, however it may initially redden your skin and if you are really sensitive it may peel. That's why I had to not use a facial mask with SA. Anyways, one tidbit of info that ppl should know is that Benzoyl peroxide is nasty nasty nasty. One of my ex-betch college roomies gave me some to use and I have semi-combo skin and not very bad, but tests, stress, breakouts, well this crap gave me systic acne and major bumps. I started popping them and using more benzoyl peroxide and it got worse. Even without picking the BP made my skin freak. It almost egged on a breakout. Hell if it ain't really broke don't fix it. PS don't use o-t-c products if you're on Retin-A or other such prescriptions for skin. Many Dr.'s won't admit this (one derm did in an article and was asked to resign from the derm medical association) but at least 1/2 hour if not more of unprotected sun is good for you every day to get your vitamin D. And some tanning is even good. The Vitamin D you'd have to get from just an hour of unprotected sun, you'd have to drink like 1000 gallons of milk. Long story short it helped my skin more than any skin cream. Also much of aging is genetic, and yes UVA (aging and cancer) rays UVB (the main tanning ones) still reach you through sunscreen, well at least the UVA, and therefore if it breaks down skin elasticity it may promote wrinkles, so from a marketing standpoint all that crap about sunscreen and even sunblock preventing wrinkles is horse crap. So let's start taking care of the environment more and help put a stop to holes in the ozone layer, cause 45000 sunblock will not save us.
