Aspirins

Could someone die from overdose on bayer aspirins?

Could someone die from taking more then 2 bayer aspirins every 4 hours? Like maybe 4 or more?

  1. Highly unlikely at that amount. I say unlikely because some people are more susceptible to stomach bleeding and of course, a true allergic reaction could kill. My advice is to take as instructed on the label. More is not better. The effective dose has a ceiling effect. Trust me, if more were needed, the manufacturer would label it as such and sell more! I hope this helps. Rick the Pharmacist
  2. see the link, but in answer to your ?, no.
  3. I doubt it. But a friend of mine OD'd on taking a bottle of Tylenol, twice, but they took her to the hospital and pumped her stomach, and then she was okay. Thank God!
  4. If they thin their blood too much they can bleed to death. Some people are already prone to bleeding problems and shouldn't get their blood too thin. Before surgery, blood should be built up. Anyone taking aspirin could have bleeding complications during or following surgery. Also, people with ulcers have to be careful with anything such as aspirin. It's best to take all meds as directed.
  5. Probably Not, I Agree With Rickydotcom, Above, I Recall the LD50 (In Humans) is Around 400-500 mg/kg of ASA, From the Merck Index (Not Manual). BTW, nyxcat1999 (Below), ASA is Not Acetaminophen.
  6. absolutely one could die, but it's rather unlikely at that dose. Infact, a severe OD of acetylsalicylic acid ( the real name for aspirin) causes multiple metabolic complex and acid-base disturbances. Rheumatoid arthritis patients used to take 32 or more per day.
  7. some of these answers are outright bizzare, sorry to say that. can you die from double doesing aspirin. NO. if you are allergic you will be in deep trouble from 1 never mind 4. you would have to take aspirin for a heck of a long time to do permanent damage to your liver, and a bleeding ulcer can happen in days or weeks or months depending on the idividual, but take my word for it, you will feel it coming long before it is bad enough to kill you. If you take many aspirin, like a handful, that on the other hand can take out your liver in one clean shot and if untreated promplty, by good old charcaol or stomach pump, can lead to death, granted it is a slow and painful death contrary to the fact that it is a pain killer that you overdose on, ironic I guess. normally a medication that is "over the counter" has its dosage set at safe levels for continued usage, but can be taken at 2 to 3 times that amount in a single does without any threat to your life. most common case, ibuprofen, you are only supposed to take 200 to 400 mg per dose every 4 hours but you can get perscriptions for 800 mg tablets 3 times per day for some conditions.
