Tylenol For Dogs Knowledge Base
Can dogs be safely given plain Tylenol for mild pain? My dog (a large boxer-lab mix, 7 years old) has a hurt paw. I can't take him to the vet until tomorrow to have it looked at. (he's limping on it, but can still run ok). He looks to be in some pain, can I safely give him one plain 500mg. Tylenol? A friend of mine said she had been told by her vet before that she could occasionally give her dog one Tylenol-codeine #3 for pain. Is 500mg. too much? Any help is very appreciated!
Is tylenol good for your dog? I am NOT giving my dog tylenol, i am simply just asking if its okay. I'VE heard from many people that they do give there dogs tylenol when they have the flu. Maybe i misunderstood, if they said tylenol or baby asprin. SO half baby ASPRIN is okay for dogs?
Tylenol PM in dogs...safe? I came home and my boyfriend had given my two dogs tylenol pm because they wouldn't calm down. I read that it can be lethal for dogs. He said he only gave them each half a pill, but I don't know how many milligrams that is. They each weigh about 40 lbs. Should I be worried?
For years I worked for a highly successful and caring Vet. He always gave dogs that had pain Tylenol 3.......? This was standard practice for pain and even to take home after they had surgery. I am in another country with my dog right now. She is a 15 year old (other wise healthy) Shih-tzu. Because it is Sunday and most Vets are closed and I am in a foreign speaking country for a month I thought I would try giving her 1/2 of a Tylenol #1. She seems to be having trouble with one back leg and we are from Florida so she isn't used to the freezing snow here. I don't know what else to do. Everyone here said NO don't give it to her but my VET did give dogs Tylenol 3 on a regular basis for pain. I can't stand to see her in pain and today my options are limited so I am going to try a 1/2 of tylenol 1 and see how she does and try to get out and find a vet tomorrow if the roads are clean and drivable. Is that so bad? I love herso much.
Can you give a dog tylenol or aspirin for pain? My 90lb American Bulldog's left front paw is a bit swollen and he is limping really bad. It doesn't look broken or fractured, but may be sprained. I am putting ice on it periodically and am going to take him to the vet on Monday if it doesn't get better. At this point he doesn't even want to walk but 3 steps and stops. Can I give him tylenol or aspirin or anything else for the pain until I can get him to the vet??? Thanks!! I'm so worried for him. (frown) forgot to mention that I checked all over his paw and pawpad and between his "toes" to make sure he didn't have anything stuck in there. It seems to be his joint right above his paw that is bothering him.

Is Tylenol poisonous to dogs? Two of my dogs were attacked by a bigger dog today and my mom gave them some tylenol for the pain.(They had a few wounds.) I've been reading some articles that say it is poisonous and others that say it isn't. I don't know what to do if it is poisonous. My parents don't want to take the dogs to a vet.
Tylenol and dogs in pain? I have a year old German shepherd and he got hit by a car, the vet is on vacation for 2 weeks and i have no way of coming in contact with her. The dog has a limp and is in pain, Can i give him one Tylenol extra strength or half? or 2? and my dog is tied, a car came through my yard and hit him. I have 4 dogs, and a 10 month old baby so no i cant keep the dogs inside. He just has a limp hes not dying. I just thought maybe something for pain, i didnt need some people to talk chit. I just asked a damn question.
Can I give my dog tylenol for the pain? He just came back from the vet from being neutered. He is acting crazy! He keeps hiding in random spots of the house. He won't stand up straight; he only sits, and if he wants to follow me, he runs really fast and sits down really fast. He looks like he is really suffering, and I just want to give him something that will calm him down or help him sleep better. What would tylenol pm do? PS I tried calling the Vet's office but they are already closed.
Can I give my dog a tylenol or an asprin? I just took my corgi off Rimadyle and put her in Cosequin as per the vet for an ACL injury.....she has gotten much better and it appears she will not need surgery as some small dogs actually repair the ACL on their own without need for surgery... as I said she was on Rimadyle for about 21/2 months and has been takin off but is still hurting....would it be ok for her to have an asprin or tylenol?
is tylenol safe for dogs? someone dropped a tylenol on the floor and my dog ate it before we got the chance to get it from him. will it hurt him? should we take him to the vet? he's a mutt about 125 pounds
can you give aspirin or baby tylenol to a dog? My daughters little maltese was just sat on and his back leg is sprained. She doesn't have the $ to take him to an emergency vet, I told her to wrap him in a blanket to help with any shock, so far so good. She called me back and said he hurts, I need to know if she can dilute an aspirin, or baby tylenol in a spoon of water and give it to him, for pain. She can take him to the vet tomorrow, she is on limited income. Any help is appreciated.
What are symptoms of Tylenol ingestion in dogs? My dog ingested a few pills of Tylenol extra strength 500mg. I called the emergency vet and they told me to induce vomiting. I did and he vomited 3 times and I saw evidence of some pills in it. I called the emergency vet back to ask if I should look for any symptoms and they told me to call animal poison control. Unfortunately I don't have the $60 consultation fee for the call. Right now he's sleeping. Gums are nice and pink, breathing is fine, no additional vomiting or any diarrhea. He is a pitbull mix, 11 months, 72 lbs. Is there anything I should keep an eye on? The emergency vet didn't seem overly concerned after I said that he had vomited. I tried to make him vomit more after the initial 3, but there was nothing left in him. He threw up A LOT. I called the emergency vet. She said that if he didn't vomit then I should bring him in, if he did then she saw no use because they would just induce vomiting there as well. Do you think a follow up with my regular vet tomorrow is sufficient?
Is it safe to give your dog Ibuprofen? I know it is safe to give your dog bendryl for allergies cuz I asked my vet, and I know another one who recommends buying it, because it is alot cheaper than their Pretnisone for dogs. Tylenol I heard can kill your dog.
is it ok to give a dog aspirin, tylenol, or ibuprofen? I've run out of the prescribed "Doggie Painkillers" and am wondering if there's anything I can do for him. He weighs 84 pounds and has a strained ligament in his rear right leg. And please, I know the obvious answer is to go to the vet and get more, but I won't have a chance for a while...
tylenol/painkiller for dogs? My dog has a very sore tooth and is trying to pry it out himself. I can't get him to the vet tonight, but he's obviously in pain. Is there any household medication I could give him in a piece of cheese etc. that would soothe his pain until I can get him to the vet?
what to do when dogs get sick? we just came back from vacation and my dog was at a kennel in a vet place she came home sick and my dog keeps sneezing really hard and alot and she acts lazy could we use nyquail or tylenol for dogs or no? im worried :(
What is best for pain in a dog, tylenol or aspirin? MY DOG IS IN PAIN !!!? I have 4 dogs and today one of my Chows decided to tear into the terrier and she has holes all over her. I CANT TAKE HER TO THE VET, they will want to put the chow down and want to take my other three. She will be fine and this has happened before and she lived, but she is in a lot of pain and I know Tylenol helps. I gave her an extra strength one today and she started to get up and walk around and jump up on things. I was wondering which would be better for pain. Don’t tell me not to give her either, I KNOW neither will hurt her and I know how much to each to give. The chow is 13 you cant train it . We tried the whole other dog attacked it before it didnt work and and yes they will put down the chow if they find out she did it. The last time this happened we took her to the vet and they warned us if it happened again they would , they also did not do a thing for the terrier but still charged use 50 $$.
can dogs take asprin or tylenol? my dog is goin 2 the vet 2morrow, but hes runnin a fever now...can i give him asprin or a tylenol for now? hes a old english sheepdog
Can I give my dog childrens tylenol? Can you give a 1 year old dachshund childrens chewable tylenol for pain? If so how much? Thank you all for your answers. I know that the vet is the first person I should call, but I was waiting for an emergency call back from him, so I resorted to this. I once heard that tylenol was okay, but I also heard it was not. I just thought that I would get some advice. I went and picked up some Rimadyl from my vet. That is what he recommended. Thanks :)
i gave my dog tylenol thinking it was aspirine!!? is it ok? will his liver be ok? i gave him 250mg, half of a capsule. he is a black lab and weighs roughly 70 - 80 lbs. and any ideas on how to get him to lose weight? he is 10 years old and daily exercise is out of the question for now because he is overweight with arthritis.
Do you know what's toxic to dogs? I see these questions all the time on here: -My dog ate chocolate, will he die? -Can I give my dog Tylenol, asprin or some other human medication? - Are grapes and raisins really bad for dogs? So do you know what's toxic to dogs? Do you know how to find out? Check this out and see for yourself: http://www.wptz.com/family/15665425/detail.html Thank you YoLO! You understood my question! And thanks for the list. There were more items there than in the article I attached.
urgent!my dogs vet sent her tylenol? gave it wrong dose? hi , we went to see my dogs veterinarian today because from 3 days now she has being vomiting a yellow liquid, (not her food ) just once a day and 1 day 3 times. She checked her and said it was ok that i should give her half tylenol, but my husband misunderstood and gave her 1 tablet 500mg, now i am reading tylenol is toxic for dogs and iam worried sick she might have a side effect, she is a shihtzu. Anyone who's a vet can tell me if i should rush her to the emergency ?because its 1am in here so i cant just talk to her vet. she seems ok just a little sad. ( but they cut her hair today as well and she hates it) -please aggressive persons and people with no veterinary knowledge and hasn't had this problem knowledge stay away-
can u give your dog Tylenol pm? my dog is shaking like he is in pain and he has allergies can vet said i can give him Tylenol and bena dryl but will it hurt for him to have them at the same time as in Tylenol pm
I gave my dog tylenol for her leg pain?..? So I asked my neighbor what she thought I should do because my dog has been limping and she said you could give them aspirin/tylenol for a pain reliever side affect. But however I didn't give her a full Tylenol pill I cut a small piece not even half of a pill? Whats your thoughts on it? =[ P.S. she is a 7 month old PIT BULL. So basically a large breed dog.
Dog ate tylenol, what to do? I found a tylenol bottle on the floor w/ the cap chewed off, and then I found my dog chewing on one...I got it from him before he ate it, but I am not sure if he ate any others? What signs should I watch for as the vet clinic is closed, I cannot take him in...I appreciate any suggestions.
MORE pet food contaminated!!! Tylenol found!!? My mom just sent me an email from an online vet that said they found Tylenol in dog and cat food. What is going on here, why all of a sudden are we having so many problems with pet food? Has anyone else heard about this news of Tylenol being found in pet food? They didn't list the names of the companies and I couldn't find anything about it on the site for the FDA. How are perscription drugs getting into these foods, is somebody trying to poison them? I am so worried, I have a 17 year old cat who can only eat wet canned food!! Side effects to look for in cats, can be very deadly for them...."The most common effects of acetaminophen poisoning in cats include swelling of the face and paws; depression; weakness; and difficulty in breathing. “We also see a condition called ‘cyanosis,’” said Dr. Hansen, “which is literally when their gums and tongue start turning a muddy color due to the lack of oxygen.” Here is the press release from the ASPCA: http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=press_060607_3
Need Vet Advice regarding treatment for my dogs arthritis? My dog is a 12 ½ year old full size Blue Merle Collie. He more recently has been experiencing bad hip pain; it seems to have gotten worse as the weather has been getting colder. He has already done the 4 cortisone injections and seemed to be doing well until the weather got much colder. I had asked our vet if there is a mild pain reliever we can give him. She prescribed us Dameraxx. We have been doing some research on this drug and considering the side effects are not comfortable giving this to him. I tried speaking to the vet about alternatives, and she had not other real suggestions. I spoke with another vet who told me the first vet prescribed the drug for a reason so we should at least try it. They want us to give him this and then monitor his side effects, by then it will be too late. I would rather look for a more pro active approach. Ideally we were hoping for like a “Motrin or Tylenol Arthritis” but for dogs. Do you have any suggestion are can you offer us any alternatives? I won't actually give him motrin or tylenol. I was just looking for something compareable to this, but that is safe for dogs to take. Sorry for the confusion. His health other than this problem is good. He recently had complete blood work and wellness testing, which all came back good.
Would it be all right if I give my dog 1/2 of a Tylenol pill for leg pain? She's got arthritis because she's getting old, but she loves to run and go for walks.. Can I give her Tylenol to ease the pain without taking her to the vet? It's not a SERIOUS life threatening issue.. Have any of you given your dog pain meds before? EDIT: I am asking because I gave her half of a regular Tylenol pill (250 mg is what she's ingested..) This is the first time I've given it to her.. I feel so bad for her when she limps 'cause she's normally really active.. This won't kill her, will it? She's a medium sized dog.. 60+ lbs.
Can you give tylenol to your dogs? My pit was stolen the pound found him and brought him home but his leg is broke and he is in pain. I can't afford to take him to the vet. They want $80.00 up front to even see him any help would be appreciated.
Can you give dogs Tylenol/Ibuprofen? My dog has arthritis and is very old. He sometimes develops a slight limp. Can I give him some sort of med (ie. Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc.) to help with the limping/pain?
Can you give a dog Tylenol or Aspirin? I took my dog to the vet. She is prone to UTI'S. He said I could give her an over the counter pain pill, but I know either Tylenol or Aspirin can be deadly to dogs. Anyone know which you can give them safely? To clarify...I already said she went to the vet jack nuts. I am giving her an antibiotic already as perscribed. My vet is already closed. Jesus people....read the stupid question you dill weeds. Thanks for actually reading the ? Ivanna. And for the advice.
is it bad to give a dog baby tylenol? I can't remember what my vet said. I have given dogs baby asprin before, I thought that my vet said it was ok to give them liquid baby tylenol as long as I gave her half of the lowest dose. Now some people are telling me it can kill my dog. Any opinions? This is a serious question. I can't afford the prescribed meds and my dog only needs it every so often. the liquid kind of baby tylenol. not in pill form I'm not stupid. I was simply asking a question. If I don't have to waste my vet's time I'd rather ask other people who might be able to help. is it better in pill for or liquid? baby asprin Private P- Just so you know. My dog is a rescue. She was born deaf and the vet was going to put her to sleep. My entire life has changed by taking this dog. I would never give her up for adoption. I was simply asking a question to some people who do have some knowledge. I have been given good answeres on here before. I love my dog and would never do anything to harm her. And like giving her up to a shelter would really do her any good. It was a legitimate question. It's not like I am asking something stupid like some of the people on here. FYI!!!! She is not hurt! She is fine. This question came up in conversation with a friend and I said I wasn't sure which was better. Neither of our dogs are hurt or ill. If this was an emergency I wouldn't be wasting time on the internet. I would be calling my vet. I was asking a question. It's not like I asked the best way to skin my dog and cook her for dinner. I asked a legtitmate question. Did you read everything I asked? Geez people. Thanks to those who were kind in their answers and didn't act like I was a total idiot. There are plenty of other idiotic questions on here. Go abuse those people, not someone who SIMPLY ASKED A LEGITIMATE QUESTION!!!! OK OK OK! You all really aren't getting the point and you are answering without reading everything I have posted. Get off of your high horses people. I knew that you could give your dog baby asprin and I have been told (by my sister in law who is a vet) that baby tylenol is okay in certain doses. I ASKED A QUESTION!!!! Do you all answer every person who asks a question this way??? It's a d@mn question. Do you really think I would get advice for my dogs health over the internet? If she was in serious danger or seriously ill or injured I wouldn't be wasitng time on here. I would be rushing her to the vet. Sionce when does a person get viciously attacked for asking a question? A simple freakin question. A simple yes or no would be sufficent. No comments about my financial situation are needed. No telling me to get rid of my dog because of this question. Think before you answer and read the entire question! I am not yelling. I am simply asking a question. My sister in law is a vet. I watched walk across the stage and receive her diploma from the University of Missouri. I asked becauseI have been told different things. Yes you can and no you can't. I have had vet's tell me this to. I am sorry if you think I was yelling. I was insulted by people treating me like I was stupid and endangering my dogs life. She doens't need the medicine right now. She has in the past and I was curious because I couldn't remember. Usually any questions I have asked on here have been answered in a kind manner. This is the first time I have been treated like this. I am sorry if it seemed like I was 'backtracking'. It was a serious question because sometimes people answer with a very smarta$$ comeback. Thank you for calling your vet. I appreciate the time you took to do so. But why would one vet tell me it's okay and then another say it can hurt the dog. I'm done with this question and I am sorry I asked it.
Can dogs have Tylenol? If so how much is safe? (Our 6yr old healthy male English Mastiff is limping on his left front leg. Slight swelling and heat on interior of ankle joint. Tender to touch and pressure). Injury probably occured when jumping out of the back of our small SUV today. Plan to take him to the vet Monday morning if it is no better then. Was hoping to help his discomfort now with what I have in the house. Will not give him anything until fully researched though. Thanks so much. ****Thanks for the responses. I had a feeling Tylenol was a no-no! That's why I asked and was researching. To give a bit more info: he's 200LBS (really.), a little chubby but not at all obese. Healthy, well cared for, etc. Considering his weight, and age (6) how many aspirin should he have in the next 24 hours prior to seeing the vet Monday morning? Also, are there any safe topical pain relievers that I can apply to the joint? Perhaps an equine topical pain product? I don't want him to lick anything off that will poison him or burn his skin...But I hesitate to ice it...I'll hydro-therapy it as well in the morning if not better by then.
Advil or tylenol use in dogs?? Can I give my dog a low dose of advil or tylenol? He is a bit stiff, and was wondering if I could try advil or tylenol to see if it helps. And yes, if he dosent seem any better in a few days, I am going to take him to the vet.
Can dogs take people pain pills? Like tylenol? My dog got hit by a car and the vet said to let him heal on his own and would not give her any pain pills. My dog flew about 8-10 feet when the car hit her. She is walking but in extreme pain. I need a serious answer.
How fast would it kill my dog if she ate some tylenol? Well i came from work and found my dog had chewed thru a bottle of tylenol. it was never opened before hand. i counted thru the pills and she only ate 2. would that kill her? bout 50-60 pounds (american bulldog) shes my baby. please tell me if it will kill her or not.
Can I feed my dog tylenol or cyanuric acid? Why not the pet food industry seems to be.........(see link) http://www.petfoodrecallfacts.com/lab.html So what's next to be found in pet foods, about all they haven't put in yet is human remains. Re: Blinddogowner post: I know, I'm trying to make a point, re-read the entire question and see the link. I know never to give a dog tylenol, it's toxic. Re: post by animalfrnzy, it's obvious from your other posts as well that your pet has really little value to you. You blame others and make excuses not to properly care for your pet, I feel sorry for it.
What would happen if i gave my dog a Tylenol pm? She is a lab husky mix about 2 to 3 ft tall like 60lb mabey would she go to sleep and be hard to wake up or would it hurt her stop telling me not to give it to her im not i think she acendently ate one i droped on the floor she hasnt done anyhting yet so im not sure
Did you know liquid tylenol will kill your dog? Our beloved Beagle found his way to knock off an uncovered bottle of liquid tylenol last Friday and on Saturday he died at the vets. He was just 3 weeks shy of his 10th birthday and we miss him so much. I just wanted people to know this stuff can kill your pets so be careful with it ok.
Dog was licking a piece of Tylenol easy tabs? I don't have the slightest clue how the Tylenol tablet got on the ground, but my old dog was licking it. I smacked his nose and picked up the Tylenol IMMEDIATELY after I noticed him licking it, and it was sticky, but he didn't consume any of it. I just want to know if the dog will be ok? Yes, I'm sure it was only one tablet on the ground. I called my mom, and she said that she dropped it this morning and that she couldn't find it.
Can I give my dog inflammatory meds like advil, tylenol? My dog ran into our kitchen wall last night and his eyes are now super puffy this morning, even sort of pink. He doesn't seem to be in pain and he's still running around but I was wondering if I could give him any home meds. like advil, tylenol etc. for the swelling?
dog is sick, fever can we give tylenol? our one yr.old dog seems to have chills, but body seems hot..not eating or drinking. Can we give tylenol to dogs ok.. thanks guys..I will not give it. IF a dog gets chills like that.. it is like people in that they are getting a fever. Her body seems warm. K... I found out, she ate part of a mushroom out back a couple days ago.. could that be it. I did read on that site they could be dangerous..
What can you give a dog for a fever? Is childrens tylenol ok? Thank-you all for your responses. I could tell my dog has been running a fever because she was at the vet earlier today and had a fever there. She hasnt been eating and we have been giving her pedalite with a sryinge, but I was just curious to see if Tylenol would help her feel better.
Dogs and Tylenol? In all the time I have been a part of the "dog world", Tylenol (acetaminophen) has been a HUGE "No, No" for dogs. It was said to be potentially life threatening in any dose. NOW...the story is starting to change. I'm hearing about more and more vets actually telling people to give it to their dogs. Vets are changing their minds. What's up with that? Why the change of heart? Anybody know? I'm just curious how many have had a vet tell them it's ok. Or anybody work at a clinic now that has had a change of heart on the Tylenol subject? I still don't think you'd ever catch me giving my dog Tylenol even if the vet said I could because everything I've ever known goes against it...it would just seem weird. Note: The "OMG, don't EVER give your dog Tylenol, it could kill him" comments need not apply. That's not what I'm asking here. As for liver damage. We know for a fact that Rimadyl can cause major liver damage and in rare cases cause death...and yet, many people seem to be perfectly comfortable with using it. Very strange to me.
what can I do if my pet eats tylenol? My dog got into a container of ibuprophen and tylenol. I wasn't their to see it, so I dont know if she actually ate any or not. Is there anything I can do short of taking her to the vet?
Vet or Vet assistants please answer: I think my 12 lb. dog ate 3 or 4 tylenol, help? My teenager dropped the tylenol bottle scattering them and my small mixed breed dog (pomeranian and terrier) we think ate 3 or 4 tylenol. We live a rural area with no animal ER. What may happen or what should we do? We have cared for many dogs, including strays over the years and this did not happen on purpose. Nothing like this has happened before and that is why I asked.
