Heart attack? I believe that a heart attack means death of cardiac tissue. I do not think that it has to mean to necrosis due to lack of oxygen, but could be due to other things such as electrical damage. So an arrythmias attack that nearly kills someone that leads to perminant damage is a form of heart attack but not a 'myocardial infarction'. What is the odd of surviving one?

I am weepy and emotional for not apparent reason. Can someone who has experienced a heart attack and/or heart surgery tell me if this is common? Should I see a doctor about it or will it go away shortly?

However, the slight pain always occurs in different parts of the left chest. I've also been having jaw discomfort that feels like a growing pimple in the area where the neck joins the lower jaw on both sides of my face. My doctors did an EKG, listened to my heart beat, did an x-ray, tested my blood, and said I am fine. I am 16 years old and I am afraid I might have a heart attack. Any suggestions?

How do you tell the difference in a heart attack & a stroke? And angina pains? I lost my husband due to a massive heart attack years ago, & I thought heart disease could be detected these days better than it was then. I am somewhat of a band aid nurse, & I thought I knew some things about health, but I've learned lately due to a friend, that sometimes it masks itself & you cannot tell. How can you tell if you have heart trouble? Is there anyone out there that has dealt with this? I thought that heart trouble was diagnosed easier than it was 10 years ago. Thank you.
Can L-Arginine increase your risk of heart attack even if you have not already had a heart attack? I've read that if you have had a heart attack, taking L-Arginine supplements will increase your chances of having and dying from another heart attack. But what about people who have not yet had a heart attack, but have the precursors of a heart attack, such as high cholesterol, hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure, etc.? Does supplementing with L-Arginine increase their risk also? To answer Scottsdalehigh64's question, I've read on several websites that L-Arginine supplementation helps with circulation problems, which I think I have. Also, as you mentioned, I do eat well, exercise, etc.
What are the symptoms of a heart attack for women? How do you know? I am 45 and a woman. I have been having pain in my shoulders and mid back, trouble breathing, and dizziness. I have been using my inhaler every 2 hours and have been taking 800mgs of motrin for the pain and a gas X and previcid for my stomach. The breathing problems seems better but I am still in some pain. My husband, a nurse, says I am not presenting the symptoms of a heart attack and thinks it is more upper respiratory related. I have also had sore shoulders for a while with limited movement that my doctor thinks is my rotator cuff. Do you think I should ride it out on pain meds and albutoral or go to the emergency room? I'm not in distress as much as I was. Any suggestions? Thanks!

How is a heart attack better than having a baby? [ Serious as well as minor side effects have been reported with the use of oral contraceptives. Serious risks, which can be life threatening, include blood clots, stroke and heart attacks. Some women should not use the Pill, including women who have blood clots, certain cancers, a history of heart attack or stroke, as well as those who are or may be pregnant. The Pill does not protect against HIV or sexually transmitted diseases. ] First question: don't people realize that pills are actually usually more life threatening than condoms? Second: They don't actually offer any sexual protection at all, and completely open up your immune system. Why not an abortion instead? It's SAFER! Third: Some brands are known to cause CANCER. How is cancer better than having a baby? Fourth: What is so bad about periods that you would rather have blood clots than a normal cycle? I was being sarcastic with the "Safer" thing. I would worry more about hamburgers, but even children understand that hamburgers are bad for you. Most women ignore the side effects of a pill.

How high can blood pressure get before a heart attack? I spoke with my mom today. She's in her late 60s and has had high blood pressure for years. She still works regularly but is staying home this week to see if her blood pressure can be moderated after spiking to 236/145. (I'm not 100% sure about the second number--it may be a little off, but I am absolutely positive about the 236.) She was given a new medication, as well as some anxiety medicine. She's always had high blood pressure, but the 236 even scared her. So, how close is someone to a heart attack (or some other major body malfunction) when blood pressure goes that high? I remember my mom's mom had high blood pressure and died from a massive heart attack at age 70 about twenty years ago.

What is the meaning of the roadside signs showing sillouette of men with brain or heart attack, in France? When in the Auvergne Rhone-Alpes region of France recently I noticed a lot of roadside signs depicting a black sillouette of a man with a red part indicating a broken heart or a brain injury ("attack"?). Sometimes these were in groups of 2 or 3. What do these mean? I thought perhaps to indicate where there had been previous road accidents, as a deterant, but there appeared to be a lot of them. Also, why sometimes a brain attack symbol, and othertimes a heart attack symbol? They mostly seemed to appear on the outskirts of small towns.
How can I tell if someone died from a heart attack? I'm writing a short story about unexplained series of deaths. Later it's revealed that these deaths were caused by heart attacks due to... being scared to death or dying of great fear. Is it possible to tell if someone died of a heart attack by looking at them and examining their body or would an autopsy have to be performed. In an autopsy, how could they tell that someone died of a heart attack? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
When my spouse was on way to hospital for an impending heart attack? My first reaction was fear for him, then almost anger at the thought that , here 'I' go again, another round of hospital visits, not knowing how it all would come out. Is this totally 'selfish' thought normal? I feel guilty that I was worried about my self. He did have the heart attack in the hospital and had a stent put in. Now he feels very normal as if nothing happened, thank goodness.

What is the actual risk of heart attack? What is the risk percentage figure that people base all the other percentages on such as smoking doubles the risk or eating barbecued meat increases your chance of heart attack by 15%. 15% of what figure? The same goes for stroke or any of those other diseases where you hear stories that if you do this or that then your risk is increased of getting it. Whats the actual (or base figure) risk so that I can analyse better what the chances really are of getting one of these things. So say the actual risk of heart attack is 1% and then if I smoke that doubles the risk of me having a heart attack to 2%. Then I can decide from there whether it is worth the risk to keep smoking. OK smoking may not be a good example to use because we all know it's bad for us but you get the idea.

Can the impact of a car bumper cause a heart attack in a cat? Our cat Timmy was hit by the bumper of a taxi. The taxi was probably going too fast. Anyway, as the taxi approached Timmy ran across the road in panic. The taxi driver didn't see him until the last minute and tried to brake. My fiance says he went up in the air and fell funny but he got up and ran up the step and through the bars of the front gate. He ran up another two steps and around the corner of the house to the side of the house where my fiance found him collapsed. When my partner saw him fall funny she said his back was arched in a funny way and that she thought he'd broken his back. But I don't think he could've run if that was the case. As he was such a gentle cat (he was only 2 years old and such a baby), I think the sheer violence of it all sent him into shock and he had a heart attack as a result. But could the impact of the car's bumper have knocked his heart out of rhythm and eventually his heart gave way? When my fiance found him his heart was fluttering she says.

Is it possible to have a heart attack at 26? I am having some chest pain and get dizzy, so I am going to see a cardiologist. But I wonder whether it is possible to get a heart attack in such a age. I am female. I am not be in the best shape but I am not overweight. I was told by a practitioner a few years ago that I might have a minor heart condition but I never got around seeing a cardiologist thinking it's just minor. I think it's very likely that I am having this due to the contraceptive patch Ortho Evra that I have been wearing. I did some research and found that it's been increasingly causing blood clot, heart issues and other for women. Does anyone have experience with Ortho Evra?
